Design Project

Logo design for the newly-announced UNESCO Chair in Cultural Heritage Management and Sustainability at the Institute for Social & European Studies (ISES) in Kőszeg, Hungary.

Brief

UNESCO Chair in Cultural Heritage Management and Sustainability was established in 2011 at the Institute for Social and European Studies Foundation and the Corvinus University of Budapest (Hungary).

The UNESCO Chair will complement the ISES-Corvinus postgraduate programme in Cultural Heritage Management & Sustainable Development, a unique program that is the first of its kind in Hungary. This postgraduate programme offers students the opportunity to become trained professionals with the skills needed to preserve and protect cultural heritage for future generations. The programme provides a solid, interdisciplinary foundation for specialization in cultural heritage, management and sustainable development.

Objectives

The specific objectives of this Chair are to:

- expand the new understanding and conception of cultural heritage management and sustainability, as well as raise awareness of local and regional development, environmental and governmental bodies, higher education institutions and academic research, as well as contribute to the democratization of decision-making in this field;

- integrate urban and regional development into ecological and environmental considerations and explore the economic benefits and potential for an interdisciplinary approach to cultural heritage management with special regard to urban and micro-regional development and quality tourism;

- implement an international Master’s programme in cultural heritage management and sustainability and other training programmes for lifelong learning, as well as create a database, a specialized library and a website on the subject; the programme quality control and diplomas will be guaranteed by the Corvinus University of Budapest;

- serve as a pole for the collection, production and dissemination of new knowledge, research results, ideas and best practices regarding cultural heritage management and sustainability, involving new partners such as the private sector, local and regional authorities and civil society organizations; and,

- contribute to the emergence of international network-gathering institutions with similar objectives related to cultural heritage management and sustainability worldwide,

- establish a scientific steering committee to guide and give direction to the work of the Chair.
