That story was truly chilling. I am happy with the progress in this society too. How can other people be a hindrance with two people who are in love with each other and be together. That's going to be real tragic if the society still continues to be narrow-minded about interracial relationships.

Renjie, thanks so much for writing this. I admit this is not a topic I think about often, but thanks for reminding us how much we got to appreciate our circumstances. We the human race has definitely come a long way, but we have so much more to go. Living in Canada, especially Toronto, does in fact makes me take the diversity, as well as the tolerance and acceptance from each other for granted. Really great post. I envision a world where we can't remember, and our kids can't imagine, the days when discrimination existed.

[...] The human story: You can talk to me in terms of percentages and demographics and I will listen. You can talk to me about ideologies and dogmas and I will listen. But if you really want me to hear you, tell me a human story. It is in those human stories that truth is illuminated. Case in point: Renjie Butalid (another of The Incredibles) posted a powerful story yesterday that allowed me to hear the thumping of all those human hearts we encounter every day on the bus, at the grocery store, walking down the street, etc… Go read it. Maybe you too will hear hearts thumping and be reminded of what connects us all. [...]
