Taking a dip back into the blogosphere…
It’s been a while since I last wrote a substantive post on my blog.
Perhaps a lot of it has to do with how busy I have been at work as well as with my personal life. But the primary reason I took a hiatus with blogging is the overwhelming sense of information overload that I have been feeling these past couple of months, amounting to what I now know as bloggers block.
It also doesn’t help when the average lifespan of a newsworthy story or blog post on social media sites like Reddit, Digg and StumbleUpon are anywhere between 12-24 hours now.
I wonder if any of you have any personal stories to share about this and how you overcame it?
Every single time I have tried to sit down and write a blog post these past few months, something else would catch my attention and by the time I came back to finishing the draft post, I found that either:
a) enough time had passed that the story in questions was ‘old news’ or
b) I simply lost interest in finishing the draft and moved on.
I know that one of the central tenets of blogging is to just write, and continue writing on a regular basis. And if you were really serious about building your readership base, write content (again, on a regular basis) of value that would have your audience coming back to your website for more.
Perhaps I just need to get back into the groove of things and write more regularly. There are certainly a lot of ideas and stories that I would like to share, especially given my experiences these past couple of months at Studio Earth, PodCamp Toronto, Harvard SEC 2009, to name a few.
I have also been using Twitter a lot more lately as well, where my thoughts are condensed into the 140 character limit, forcing me to get my ideas across in real-time in a clear yet concise manner. (Click here for a great article that demystifies Twitter).
And even with Twitter, I know that it will still take some time to get used to before I can fully integrate Twitter with the work I am doing with SiG@Waterloo as well as with the Laurel Centre for Social Entrepreneurship
Speaking of which, these are some great people to follow if you’re interested in social innovation/entrepreneurship/media: @Igniter, @josephdee, @AllysonHewitt
Either way, Im back.
